School bus crashes in Eastern Kentucky. One student taken to a hospital.
A school bus with students on board crashed Thursday morning in Eastern Kentucky.
The crash involved a Jackson County Public Schools bus. The school district didn’t say where the crash occurred or what caused it, but it did say no students were seriously injured.
One student was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, according to the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office.
“Student safety is our highest priority,” Superintendent Renee Smith wrote in a letter to the school community. “The incident is currently being reviewed in collaboration with transportation officials to determine the cause and ensure that all proper safety precautions were followed.”
All students on the bus were checked out by emergency medical services. The school district said the students are being taken to the Jackson County Board of Education and parents are being contacted.
Counselors will be made available at schools for any student who needs support.
“If you believe your child would benefit from additional support, please contact your school’s main office so we can connect you with counseling services,” Smith said in the letter.
