Founding director of Morehead’s Craft Academy no longer in role
The founding director of the Craft Academy at Morehead State University is no longer with the program, and the university is conducting a search to fill the position.
April Hobbs Nutter, spokesperson for Morehead State, did not respond to questions about when or why the director, Carol Christian, had left. Christian also did not respond to a request for comment.
Christian had been the director since the program was founded in 2015, according to the school’s website. A job posting on the Morehead Human Resources website lists an opening for the executive director of the Craft Academy with an anticipated start date of July 1.
The Craft Academy is a residential dual enrollment program for gifted Kentucky high school students who live on Morehead’s campus in their junior and senior years.
“The Craft Academy for Excellence in Science and Mathematics is currently conducting a national search for the program’s next director and anticipates naming the new leader by summer 2026,” Hobbs Nutter said in a statement. “This search is designed to attract candidates with a strong record of innovation, student success, and strategic vision to guide the program’s continued growth. We remain deeply committed to maintaining the program’s standard of excellence throughout this leadership transition.”
Christian has more than 40 years of experience in teaching and education administration, and was the first woman high school athletic director in Kentucky, according to the directory on the university’s website. Prior to overseeing the Craft Academy, she held multiple positions at Morehead State, including overseeing the school’s doctoral program.
The Craft Academy enrolls 240 high school students who earn high school and college course credit. Students graduate high school with up to 60 hours of college credit.
