The associate principal of Lexington’s Edythe J. Hayes Middle School has been named the new principal of Garrett Morgan Elementary.

Kris Church has been selected as the next principal of Garrett Morgan Elementary, effective July 1, district officials said Wednesday.

With more than 15 years of experience in education at Fayette County Public Schools, she has served as associate principal at Edythe J. Hayes Middle School since 2021.

Church joined FCPS in 2011 as a special education teacher at Southern Middle, where she worked for five years. In 2016, she moved to Hayes, where she was an achievement and compliance coach before becoming associate principal.

“Kris Church is an expert communicator with a focus on promoting a positive and engaged school culture and climate. She is a proven instructional leader, and I expect that she will maintain high expectations while respecting continuity and advancing continuous improvement,” said Assistant Superintendent Bill Bradford.

Church holds a bachelor’s degree in management marketing and communications from Tulane University, a master’s degree in learning and behavior disorders from Georgetown College and an education specialist degree from University of the Cumberlands.
