See which 120 positions have been cut in Fayette County Public Schools
Fayette County Public Schools released details Tuesday on the 120 jobs it cut, consisting of 49 hourly and 71 salaried roles.
Of the 71 salaried positions, 16 positions are administrators, district spokesperson Miranda Scully said.
“As part of its ongoing commitment to operational accountability and financial stabilization, Fayette County Public Schools is releasing a list of positions eliminated at the district level. This includes both hourly and salaried roles across various centralized support departments,” said Scully.
The details come as the district’s troubled financial situation unfolds. District officials say finances have been misstated for decades, and FCPS has made a $110 million loan request, which the district needs to make payroll. The district’s contingency fund balance is just 2%, the bare minimum under state law.
The reduction in district-level support staff positions follows a review process that initially focused on holding and evaluating vacant district office roles during the 2025-26 fiscal year, officials said.
“We want to underscore that these reductions should not be interpreted as a judgment of the people in those roles or the work they are doing,” said Scully. “We ask that our community demonstrate empathy for the affected staff members as they continue to navigate this challenging news. These colleagues have dedicated their time, energy, and talents to supporting our students. They are more than a job title; they are our neighbors, friends, and valued members of our community. “

Current outlook
Each of the people impacted was notified individually, district officials said.
“Human resources is actively working with those with job rights or tenure to identify potential placements. All impacted staff are encouraged to apply for open positions of interest and for which they are qualified. Eligible individuals will be contacted through the district’s recall process as positions open,” district officials said Tuesday. “FCPS remains committed to protecting classroom instruction, supporting student achievement, and restoring financial stability to the district.”
Several employees have previously spoken out against the cuts, saying they will affect students and academics.
As far as current finances, a proposed tentative budget is structurally balanced, but only with an anticipated $3 million revenue from the sale of surplus property, district officials previously said. The district is considering selling its former central office on Main Street as well as two school campuses.
The total proposed tentative budget for fiscal year 2027 is $880 million.
