UK fraternity SAE suspended, members moved

More than 40 members of a University of Kentucky fraternity have been relocated after it was closed Saturday due to fire-safety violations.

The Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity, at 410 Rose Lane, was closed after an incident that happened late Friday night or early Saturday morning, said UK spokesman Jimmy Stanton.

Sean Dunn was charged by UK police with arson, wanton endangerment and tampering with physical evidence, Stanton said.

Stanton said rooms at campus residential halls were made available to about 46 people living at the fraternity house.

The national chapter of Sigma Alpha Epsilon has suspended the UK chapter, Stanton said.

SAE was founded at UK in 1900, making it one of the oldest fraternities on campus. Some of its famous alumni include former Kentucky Govs. Keen Johnson and Edward T. "Ned" Breathitt, Outback Steakhouse founder Chris Sullivan and Lexington businessman and Thoroughbred horse owner William T. Young, for whom the UK main library was named.
