Fayette schools change location for public budget forum, add a second session
Fayette County Public Schools officials announced on Tuesday a change in the location of a forum to gather public input about the budget, and a second session has been added primarily for employees.
District officials have said they need to trim $20 million from the school system's 2014-15 budget. Superintendent Tom Shelton said last week he would schedule the forums to hear from the public.
The first forum has been moved to the gym at Northeast Christian Church on Star Shoot Parkway to allow more parking and space. It will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday.
In response to a request from the Fayette County Education Association, a second forum primarily for employees will be from 6 to 8 p.m. March 11 at the church, the district said Tuesday.
Shelton said in the announcement that members of the school board and the executive leadership team will be at both events.
Shelton said he has "received hundreds of excellent ideas and suggestions" regarding balancing the budget since last week.
"We value your ideas, suggestions and opinions and will consider all stakeholder input as we craft a balanced spending plan that meets the needs of all students," he said in Tuesday's announcement.
