Powell school officials turned over allegations regarding boys basketball team to Kentucky State Police

Powell County Superintendent Michael Tate said Saturday that school district officials contacted Kentucky State Police after investigating allegations of inappropriate conduct by members of Powell County High School’s boys basketball team.

Tate said he learned last Tuesday of the allegations, which he declined to discuss.

“We did an initial investigation. At a certain point in the investigation, we felt that it was a matter that needed to be turned over to the state police,” Tate said.

Master Trooper Joe Veeneman, a spokesman for the Kentucky State post in Morehead, told the Herald-Leader last week he wasn’t sure whether state police would release any results of the investigation, “because my understanding is that everybody that was involved were all underage. That includes alleged victims and alleged perpetrators as well.”
