Bacon, Love say they will run for re-election to Fayette school board
With their four-year terms expiring at the end of the year, Fayette County Public Schools board members Melissa Bacon and Daryl Love say they plan to run for re-election.
Meanwhile, at a March 10 planning meeting, board members will decide on a new chairman to replace John Price, who died in February. Kentucky Education Commissioner Stephen Pruitt will soon appoint a fifth school board member to replace Price.
Bacon, the vice chairman, said Friday that “at this time, I do anticipate that I will run for re-election.”
Bacon said she was excited about Superintendent Manny Caulk’s vision for the district “and I want to be a part of the tremendous improvements on the horizon for our students, employees, families and the entire community.”
She is described on the district’s website as a full-time mom.
Love said: “Having served on the superintendent screening committee and having a role in hiring Manny, I feel like we have established momentum in the district and I want to continue supporting this work as we lay the foundation for helping every student reach his or her unlimited potential.”
The terms of other members of the board — Amanda Ferguson and Doug Barnett — expire at the end of 2018.
Bacon, who represents District 1, was appointed to the school board in 2006, and elected in 2007, 2008 and 2012.
Love, who represents District 5, was appointed to the board in 2010 and elected in 2012.
Love is the manager of community relations for Ashland Inc.
As for the school board chair decision, Bacon said, “Although John is irreplaceable, I believe every single member of our school board team would step up and make an excellent board chair.
“We have a great team and we will come together at our next meeting to decide together on this issue. I will be happy to serve Fayette County Public Schools in whatever capacity is best for our team.”
Ferguson said even though procedural rules dictate the election of a board chair and vice chair, “we must operate as a team no matter who fills those positions.”
