Charter school forum will be at Lafayette High School Wednesday night
State Sen. Reginald Thomas, D-Lexington, will hold a town hall forum from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday in the Lafayette High School cafeteria to discuss proposed charter school legislation.
There are two bills dealing with charter schools in the Kentucky General Assembly: Senate Bill 253 and House Bill 589. SB 253 has been assigned to the Senate Educate Committee and HB 589 has been assigned to the House Education Committee.
The bills would create pilot programs for charter schools in Fayette and Jefferson counties. The legislation says a charter school would be part of the state’s system of public education, but it would be exempt from some laws and regulations applicable to the state board of education and local school districts.
Lafayette High School is at 401 Reed Lane.
