Juvenile arrested in Lexington after a six-hour standoff

A nearly six-hour standoff at a Lexington apartment building ended about 7 a.m. Saturday with the arrest of a male juvenile, Lexington Police Lt. Jonathan Bastian said.

The juvenile is a person of interest in several investigations, Bastian said. He said members of a police emergency response unit talked the juvenile into surrendering. The incident occurred at Whispering Hills Apartments on Camelot Drive beginning at about 1:40 a.m. and the juvenile was taken into custody at 7:10 a.m.

During the standoff, police evacuated the immediate area out of an abundance of caution, Bastian said.

Bastian would not say whether the juvenile arrested was connected to shooting that occurred shortly before 11 p.m. Friday on Pemberton Street.

A man in his twenties was shot in his extremities but the injuries were not life-threatening, Bastian said.
