Transgender flag, men in veils and women in tuxedos among new emojis debuting in 2020
Inclusive emojis will soon be on their way to a smartphone near you.
Emojipedia unveiled sample images of Unicode’s 117 new emojis for 2020 on Wednesday, boasting a number of exciting icons.
Most notably, the Emoji 13.0 release — which is expected in the latter half of 2020 — includes several nods to the LGBTQ community.
Non-binary emojis include images called “person in tuxedo” and “person with veil,” as well as “person feeding baby” and — for Christmas fans — “Mx. Claus,” all of which are available in five skin tone variants, according to Emojipedia.
The release will also include emoji versions of the transgender symbol and flag as well as two non-gendered people hugging, the company says.
A ninja — also with five skin tone variants — will be part of the emoji drop along with men, women and persons each holding a baby, according to Emojipedia.
Of course, there’s a new set of animals stampeding in: a black cat, mammoth, seal and cockroach among them. Bubble tea will also make its emoji debut along with a blueberry, olive and teapot.
