Mom finds dryer ‘full of hair and blood’ after teen put puppy in it, Indiana cops say
An 18-year-old Indiana man was arrested this week after allegedly killing his 3-week-old puppy by putting it in a clothes dryer, according to media reports.
Jeremy Lindsey was home alone Wednesday and when his mother got back to their South Bend home, he told her that their puppy, Cammie, had died, according to WSBT. The mother said the dog “was scraped up and looked like it had been hit by a car,” WNDU reported.
Later that evening, the mother opened the dryer and it was “full of hair and blood,” according to the South Bend Tribune.
The mother told her husband and they called the police, WSBT said. The teenager admitted to police putting the puppy in the dryer because it was “being mean” to their cat, police said, according to the Tribune.
The teenager was charged with killing a domestic animal, torturing a vertebrate animal and cruelty to an animal. He could face up to two and a half years each for the first two charges, which are felonies, according to WSBT.
He has been placed in St. Joseph County Jail and awaits his arraignment, jail records show. He will remain in the jail until he has a mental assessment, WNDU reported.
“Given the nature and circumstances of this crime, the State has a concern of the safety of the community, as well as the safety of Jeremy Lindsey,” the probable cause documents state, according to WNDU.
According to Rover.com, it takes around one to two weeks for puppies to open their eyes after birth.
