Why did this chicken stop by an Elizabeth Warren campaign office in NC? To lay eggs
A feathery visitor wandered into an Elizabeth Warren campaign office in North Carolina — and laid eggs.
The surprise encounter prompted organizers for the Democratic presidential hopeful to ask: “Is this your chicken?”
The saga unfolded Sunday on a Twitter account for Warren’s supporters in Western North Carolina. The brazen bird made its way inside the office in Asheville, eventually laying eggs in two corners of the room, photos show.
“We have 3 veterinarians who canvass for us, and one of them was quite impressed,” the campaign office wrote.
After officials announced the search for the animal’s owner, cheesy puns erupted on social media.
“She’s EGG-cited for Warren,” one person wrote.
Then there were those who suggested the chicken get a new name: Elizabeth Warhen.
Some social media users found ways to link the fowl to the politician’s push to become the Democratic nominee for president.
“We’re gonna ruffle a few feathers fighting corruption, but there’s no bok bok boking down!!” one Twitter user commented.
After the chicken laid an egg, another person wrote: “She heard the good news... warren saves and covers the cost of maternal care.”
Warren’s own Asheville office had some fun with the scenario, too.
“The chicken has just asked me if Warren had a plan for rural America, it’s (sic) farmers, workers, infrastructure, and healthcare,” one tweet said. “I said this is gonna take a while... @ewarren has a few plans for that.”
So what happened to the chicken?
The owners eventually reunited with their animal after reading the social media chatter. The car that came to pick up the chicken had a decal of Jonathan Van Ness, a star on the Netflix series “Queer Eye,” according to the campaign office.
The consensus from some: It’s just what happens in Asheville, a mountain city known for tourists and offbeat encounters.
