Man threw nails on roads to lash out at drivers, OR cops say. Now he’s going to jail

An Oregon City man kept throwing nails down on the road to get back at drivers, police said. He was just sentenced to 30 days in jail.

Bret Michael Wilson, 57, pleaded guilty in January to criminal mischief and four counts of disorderly conduct for tossing roofing nails from his car onto busy streets, The Oregonian reported.

On Tuesday, he was sentenced to 30 days in jail and ordered to pay more than $2,000 in restitution, The Oregonian reported. He will also need to complete an anger management program, the Portland Tribune reported.

Wilson threw nails so often, he was dubbed the “nighttime nailer,” KOIN reported.

“He was a menace to Oregon City for years,” prosecutor Bryan Brock told The Oregonian. “Police lived in constant annoyance.”

Oregon City police told the Portland Tribune that Wilson admitted to throwing nails on the street from his car more than 50 times over the past few years. He damaged multiple tires, and officers had received more than 60 calls about nails in the street in two years, Portland Tribune reported.

“We had figured out a time and location that was consistent and in a dark area of these streets,” Oregon City Police Capt. Shaun David told KOIN. “He was very calculated in what he was doing. When a car comes down and windows are down and all of a sudden he throws nails out, we want to catch him. The officer was a little shocked he was actually watching this happen.”
