‘Law & Order’ writer threatens to ‘light up’ rioters on Facebook. He’s out of a job
A television writer on several shows about law enforcement won’t be working on a new “Law & Order” spinoff after profane Facebook posts threatening rioters, Variety reported.
Craig Gore, who was set to work on a new show starring former “Law & Order: SVU” star Christopher Meloni, posted a photo of himself holding a firearm, captioned “curfew,” to his Facebook account, Deadline reported.
In a reply to comments on the post, since deleted, Gore wrote, “Sunset is being looted two blocks from me. You think I won’t light motherf---ers up who are trying to f--- my property I worked all my life for? Think again…” The Wrap reported.
On Tuesday, Wolf Entertainment, which produces “Law & Order,” posted a statement by producer Dick Wolf to Twitter that read “I will not tolerate this conduct, especially during our hour of national grief. I am terminating Craig Gore immediately.”
Gore was previously an executive producer on “S.W.A.T.” and a co-executive producer on “Chicago P.D.,” IMDB reported. His profile says he served time in prison as a young man before becoming a writer.
Gore did not immediately respond to a request for comment, The Wrap reported. His Facebook and Twitter accounts appear to have been deleted.
Gore’s Facebook posts and dismissal came amid national protests that erupted after video emerged of a Minneapolis police officer kneeling on George Floyd’s neck as he begged for air during his May 25 arrest on suspicion of fraud.
Floyd, a black man, later died. Officer Derek Chauvin, who is white, has been arrested in the death. He and three other Minneapolis police officers also have been fired.
Some of the protests, which have spread from Minneapolis across the nation, have been blamed for clashes with police, fires and other unrest..
The violence and thefts involve much smaller groups at mostly peaceful gatherings, authorities say. The vast majority of the protesters across the nation have been “peaceful demonstrators calling for change,” law enforcement officials told ABC News.
Dozens of cities have enacted curfews, and the National Guard has been mobilized in several states. President Donald Trump has threatened to use the military to quell violence.
