Target’s gay pride nutcracker goes viral on TikTok — but good luck finding one
A nutcracker sold at Target is proving to be a hot commodity this Christmas season, selling out in many stores across the country.
A nutcracker doll for sale at Target’s pride nutcracker — holding a gay pride flag and sporting a rainbow hat — is causing a lot of hype on social media. And if you look on Target’s website, there’s a good chance you’ll see the popular nutcracker is sold out in stores near you.
“Show your advocacy for LGBTQIA+ friends and family in fun, festive style with this Pride Nutcracker from Wondershop,” Target says on its website. “Showcasing a man dressed in traditional nutcracker costume holding a pride flag and wearing a rainbow hat, this decorative figurine helps you get in the rhythm for a fun and festive Christmas. The bright color scheme adds a merry touch to your seasonal display.”
A TikTok post with more than 340,000 views has helped fuel some of the exposure for the product.
“It reeks of rainbow capitalism...that being said, hell yeah,” one person commented.
“This is what Tchaikovsky wanted,” one commenter said, a reference to the composer who scored the1892 ballet, “The Nutcracker.”
Other people applauded the representation, as the nutcracker man is a person of color.
Shoppers are itching to get their hands on the nutcracker, asking people on Twitter where they can find one.
Some people have shown pictures of their stores with several of the figurines, but others have been out of luck.
“Dear Internet, I really want this Pride Nutcracker for our second annual Glitzmas this year, but every Target in the immediate Madison area is sold out. Find me one?” one Wisconsin resident wrote.
“Okay if any of y’all see this in a Target near you i cannot find it ANYWHERE and it’s not available for shipping but I need it for my liberal nutcracker collector mother PLEASE lmk i will pay you for it plus shipping plus extra,” another Twitter user said.
