A man lying on the couch went flying through his living room after an SUV slammed into his home, Washington fire officials said.

The driver of an SUV crashed into a Jeep parked outside a house Dec. 15 on South Pacific Avenue in Kelso after exiting a street at a high speed and losing control, the Cowlitz 2 Fire and Rescue team said in a news release.

The SUV pushed the Jeep all the way through a wall on the exterior of the house and into the home, fire officials said.

“The force of the vehicles striking the wall propelled the resident that was laying on a couch across his living room,” fire officials said.

Fire and rescue officials arrived at the home and found the SUV was “completely buried into (the) garage,” leaving the home significantly damaged. Fuel tanks were also leaking gasoline.

The driver and his dog were still inside the SUV when officials arrived at the home. Rescuers removed the driver from the car, and the driver was taken to a hospital emergency room.

The homeowner told officials there were six dogs in the garage at the time of the crash that were initially missing.

“After crews re-evaluated the stability of the structure they were able to search and locate all of the dogs, who were uninjured,” officials said.

The homeowner refused to be taken to a hospital.

Kelso is about 65 miles south of Olympia.
