Three children ages 6 to 8 plunged into an icy pond Sunday in Arapahoe County, Colorado, and were rescued by a nearby woman and teen, officials say.

When three children ages 6 to 8 plunged through ice on a frozen pond, onlookers didn’t hesitate, Colorado authorities said.

A nearby woman ran onto the ice to pull two of the children from the frigid water while a teen jumped into the pond to help save the third on Sunday, Jan. 9, the Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office reported on Twitter.

Deputies and firefighters used CPR to revive a child who was pulled from the water not breathing, the sheriff’s office said.

But the child was hospitalized in critical condition, South Metro Fire Rescue reported on Twitter.

The accident took place about 3:30 p.m. as five children played on the ice on a pond at an apartment complex, KUSA reported.

All three children who fell through the ice were pulled from the water before deputies and firefighters arrived, KMGH reported.
