New Hostess snack could give you a caffeine kick — without the coffee. What to know
Stuck between doughnuts or coffee? Hostess Brands has married two breakfast staples in their newest snack, so you don’t have to choose.
The snack cake brand is debuting a new caffeinated doughnut that is said to give snack lovers a “boost” without the coffee, according to a Feb. 15 news release. The new Hostess Boost Jumbo Donettes will roll out at convenience stores nationwide this month.
The doughnuts come in two flavors — chocolate mocha and caramel macchiatio — and contain “slightly less caffeine than one cup of coffee,” the release says.
The caffeinated cakes have been available in select markets since November, a Hostess Brands spokesperson told McClatchy News in a statement. Now, donettes fans across the U.S. will be able to give them a try.
“For adults who are increasingly looking for alternative sources of caffeine, our new Hostess Boost Jumbo Donettes offer a tasty, energy-boosting, grab-and-go way to jumpstart the day,” Christopher Balach, general manager of Hostess Brands headquartered in Lenexa, Kansas, said in the release.
So how do the doughnuts get their “kick”? Hostess said the snacks are “caffeinated with coffee bean extract” and coated in a light glaze. They’re three times the size of regular donettes, the company said, and come in a 2.5-ounce single-serve package.
Hostess is the latest brand to give their iconic snack cakes a sweet, new twist.
In January, Little Debbie partnered with Hudsonville Ice Cream to launch a new line of ice cream flavors inspired by its most popular snack cakes, including Honey Buns and Nutty Bars, McClatchy News reported. The new flavors debuted months after the two companies launched the seasonal Christmas Tree Cakes ice cream last fall.
