You can take a spin in this spaceship-like dome home for sale in Illinois. Have a look
A unique home with a cool feature has landed on the real estate market in Somonauk, Illinois, for $650,000.
At least, it’s a cool feature when working properly.
The four-bedroom, 3.5-bathroom dome home can rotate, Special Finds said. The thing is, it’s currently not working. When functional, the home can spin since it’s built on a “turntable-like structure and rings fitted with 1,600 stainless steel ball bearings,” Special Finds says.
Thanks to this, the owner can program an electronic device to spin the home. Or they can pull a Fred Flintstone-like maneuver and push the home with their bare hands.
The official listing on Realtor.com doesn’t mention the home’s rotating potential.
The home is 4,018 square feet and looks like an alien spaceship on the outside, with sleek and spacious features on the inside, including a large living room and ample kitchen on the main floor, the listing on Realtor.com says.
The second level of the house spanning 1,000 square feet is a loft area that allows you to peer down on the main floor. The upstairs has two bedrooms, including the primary.
Elsewhere on the property is a Cleary building with an office and a storage room.
The house was owned by the late Chicago psychic Joe Who, whose birth name was Joe Tufano, a man who wanted to live in a dome home, but was particular about certain aspects that come when living in one.
“I live outside of (a little town west of Chicago),” Who told the Daily Journal in 2011. “I always wanted to live in a dome, but I hadn’t seen one that didn’t leak. So, I read about this manufacturer in Canada, and I went up to see it. It was run by a ship builder, so I was pretty confident that it wouldn’t leak. I wound up buying it.
“Did I mention it rotates 330 degrees, and then it goes back? I love it there.”
Who died in May of last year at the age of 72, according to his online obituary.
The home was also owned by Bill McVay, WSPY News reports.
The small village of Somonauk is about 63 miles southwest of Chicago.
