Hiker so ‘exhausted’ after hours on trail that he asks for rescue, Hawaii officials say

A Hawaii fire department rescued a hiker after he was exhausted from climbing, officials said.

Honolulu Fire Department officials responded to an emergency call from a hiker on the Moanalua Middle Ridge trail in Moanalua on March 25 at about 4:25 p.m., the department said in a news release.

A total of 18 officers responded to the scene and found a 31-year-old man, exhausted from hiking, officials said. The hiker told fire department officials he’d been hiking for six hours and was unable to leave the trail by himself.

An officer made his way to the hiker, and the two walked to an extraction point, where the tired hiker was airlifted to safety at 5:30 p.m.

The man was uninjured and did not need medical attention after he was airlifted off the trail, the release said.
