Missing toddler dead after being found in water-filled construction hole, IN cops say
A toddler drowned after reportedly falling into a hole dug for construction in Berne, Indiana.
The child had been missing for a period of time before they were found, the Adams County Sheriff’s Department told WPTA.
At about noon on Wednesday, March 30, a family member noticed the toddler’s absence and went looking for them, the outlet reported.
The boy was found facing head down in a posthole, the sheriff’s office told TV station WANE. The hole was a little more than three feet deep, but 10 inches of water had pooled at the bottom.
First responders were called to the scene and attempted to resuscitate the boy, according to WFFT. Those efforts failed.
He was taken to a hospital and soon pronounced dead, the station reported.
The town of Berne is about 90 miles northeast of Indianapolis.
