Betty White’s beloved final home lists in California. But new owner can’t live there

Betty White’s longtime home that she shared with husband Allen Ludden in Brentwood has hit the California real estate market for $10.5 million.

It was in this five-bedroom, six-bathroom home where “The Golden Girls” actor died on Dec. 29, 2021, just a few weeks shy of her 100th birthday.

Unfortunately, the 3,029-square-foot home is being sold as a teardown, allowing a new owner a “unique opportunity to build” their dream home on the lot, which will have views of the Getty Museum and mountains, according to the listing on Sotheby’s International Realty.

Potential buyers will not be shown the inside of the house, the listing says.

White’s Carmel beach house, which was referred to as “her special sanctuary,” listed in March for $7.95 million and sold for $10.77 million, a Sotheby’s news release said.

According to the Los Angeles Times, White and Ludden bought the Brentwood home, which was built in 1952, in the 1960s. They were married from 1963 until the game show host’s death in 1981.

White was first introduced to the world in the late 1940s-early 1950s, but her career took off after starring on “The Mary Tyler Moore Show.” Her popularity soared when she played the lovingly naïve Rose Nylund on “The Golden Girls”.

Betty spent her final days inside the home, her close friend and agent Jeff Witjas said.

“She really is a homebody, so towards the end of her life, she spent most of her life at home, almost all of it,” he said according to ETOnline.com. “She was very comfortable. It was her home.”
