Months after 28-year-old Lindsey Schobelock went missing, hunters found an “abandoned, suspicious” campsite, authorities said.

They contacted the Ross County Sheriff’s Office, and deputies and detectives responded to the wooded campsite on May 9 and found human remains, according to a Facebook post from the sheriff’s office.

The next day, the remains were identified as those of Schobelock, who was last seen on Feb. 23 in Chillicothe, Ohio. The campsite where she was found is about 9 miles southwest of the town.

When Schobelock went missing, authorities said law enforcement was “concerned for her safety.” She is believed to have been “experiencing some health problems,” according to WSYX.

Family says the mom had “abruptly left her job at a tattoo shop” the afternoon she went missing, which was “out of character” for Schobelock, according to NBC.

The next day, her car was found about on deserted Windy Ridge Road, NBC reported, close to where her remains were found. Her stepmother described the road as one “you don’t really go on it unless you need to be on it.” Her keys were near the vehicle, but personal items like her purse and phone were found at home.

Family says she leaves behind two young children.

“I will forever be thankful that i convinced you take to some quick family portraits,” Yreka Kay Cafe shared on Facebook. “Your boys will always be able to look back at these pics with their beautiful mama. I’ll miss those dimples and you always hogging the aux cord. rest easy, my friend.”

Many other friends and family shared fond memories with the young mom.

“She was so creative, eccentric, and quirky, and I had the honor to call her family,” Jacob Schobelock said. “I find myself in deep regret that I didn’t reach out or stay in touch more in recent times. I love you, and I hope we meet again in the end, Lindsey.”

“I love you, Lindsey. I’ll cherish every weekend & summer vacation we spent together when we were young, & all the memories in between,” wrote Courtney Schobelock. “I’m blessed I got to grow up with you. I’ll think about you everyday, until we meet again.”

“This one stings,” Jordan Webb wrote. “Some of my earliest memories are with Lindsey at Worthington, playing soccer down in the annex, or her annual ‘back to school’ party she had before the new school year. So many memories that I will cherish forever.”

The Ross County Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate Schobelock’s disappearance and death. If you have additional information, authorities ask you call the detective bureau at 740-773-1186.
