A 57-year-old bicyclist was killed on a Louisiana highway after he was hit by one car and two trucks, police said.

Thibodaux resident Jerome Cooter was biking just after 5 a.m. on May 12 along Louisiana Highway 308, according to a news release from the Louisiana State Police.

Cooter didn’t have any rear lights on his bike during his ride, and a 2022 Hyundai Accent driving in the same direction came up behind him, according to the release.

The driver swerved to the left but still hit Cooter, who was thrown off his bike by the impact, according to police.

After Cooter fell off the bike, an oncoming 2007 Ford F-150 and a 2009 Toyota Tacoma also hit him in the road, the release said.

Cooter wasn’t wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, police said. He had fatal injuries and was pronounced dead on the scene.

The drivers were wearing seat belts, and police said they did not believe intoxication was a factor in the initial collision.

An investigation is ongoing.

Thibodaux is about 60 miles southwest of New Orleans.
