Body of 50-year-old hiker found days after he vanished from Hawaii trail, police say

The body of a missing hiker was discovered days after he went missing from a Hawaii state park, police said.
Moses “Lono” Gardner of Lawa’i disappeared on May 8 from the trails in the Koke’e State Park off Miloli’i Ridge Road, the Kaua’i Police Department said in a Facebook post.
His body was found around 3:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 12, in the Ku‘Ia Natural Reserve area, police said.
Search and rescue teams started looking for Gardner after he was reported missing but halted rescue operation three days later after not finding him, police said.
Department of Land and Natural Resource’s Division of Forestry and Wildlife workers found his body in the afternoon the next day as they were doing routine field operations, police said.
The investigation is ongoing, but foul play is not suspected, police said.
“We, as a bureau, again convey our deepest condolences to the family and friends of the deceased. While this isn’t the outcome we had hoped for, we hope this information brings closure to all those affected,” police Investigative Services Bureau Acting Capt. Chris Calio said.
