A 3-year-old boy and a 9-year-old girl were injured after being thrown from an ATV they were driving, Wisconsin officials said.

On May 15, Pepin County sheriff’s deputies were called to a home for reports of an ATV crash, a news release said.

Investigators determined a 9-year-old girl was helping a 3-year-old boy drive an ATV when they lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a tree, the sheriff’s office said.

Both of the children were thrown from the ATV, officials said in the release. They were both wearing helmets during the crash.

One of the children was taken to a hospital with serious injuries, and the other was flown to a Minnesota hospital by helicopter with critical injuries, deputies said at the time of the May 15 release.

The current condition of the two children is unknown.

Pepin County is about 75 miles southeast of Minneapolis.
