Spider-Man stunt robot loses control over Disneyland, slams into building, video shows
Visitors to Avengers Campus at Disneyland gasped in surprise when an animatronic Spider-Man stunt robot lost control and hit a building, a video shows.
No one was injured in the mishap about noon Thursday, June 9, and the high-flying robot returned for a show later that afternoon, Deadline reported.
“As with any flight, there can be some bumps along the way, but Spider-Man was back in action in time for his afternoon adventures in Avengers Campus!” a Disneyland spokesperson told the publication.
The animatronic Spider-Man performs daily stunt shows over the newly added Avengers Campus in Disney California Adventure, swinging on lines from building to building.
A video posted to Instagram by Darren Lee shows the stunt robot swing across the campus, then hit the side of a building, falling and breaking several decorative slats.
“Another happy landing,” Lee wrote in the caption.
The Spider-Man stunt robot normally releases the line, performs a flip and lands atop the building, KTLA reported.
The Disneyland News Today blog posted a video to Twitter showing the animatronic Spider-Man back in action over Avengers Campus later that afternoon, calling the accident “a rather crashy encounter” with a wall.
