64-year-old dies after golf cart collides head-on with car in South Carolina, cops say
A golf cart was traveling on the “wrong side of the road” before a deadly crash in South Carolina, officials said.
Sidney Kennedy, 64, reportedly was behind the wheel of the golf cart when it collided head-on with a car on Tuesday, June 28. Kennedy was taken to a hospital, where he died, Lake City officials wrote in a news release.
The crash was reported in the early morning along South Morris Street, the same street where Kennedy lived. The area is in Florence County, roughly 60 miles west of Myrtle Beach.
As of June 30, officials said the driver of the car wasn’t facing charges.
“The golf cart was being driven with no lights on and on the wrong side of the road into oncoming traffic,” Jody Cooper, the Lake City police chief, wrote in the release.
Lake City officials said there are several South Carolina laws pertaining to golf cart drivers, including those that require them to ride on roads during the daytime and have a valid license.
