Dad sees son’s flipped kayak in bayou, Louisiana cops say. Searchers find his body
A kayaker was found dead in a bayou after his father noticed his kayak was overturned, Louisiana police said.
The kayaker was identified as 28-year-old David Anderson, according to WGNO.
Anderson’s father called police at 10 p.m. Aug. 9 once he spotted the kayak flipped in the Doubloon Bayou in Slidell just behind his home, but his son was nowhere to be found, according to a news release from the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office.
The last time Anderson was seen was around 5:30 p.m. that evening fishing in the bayou, according to the release.
The STPSO Marine Division scoured the bayou and located Anderson’s body just before 11:30 p.m., according to the release.
“My condolences go out to this family,” Sheriff Randy Smith said. “Let this unfortunate event serve as a reminder to everyone to please wear (a)life vest at all times when on the water.”
Slidell is about 35 miles northeast of New Orleans.
