Mom slashes ex’s tires, then points stun gun at him and their child, Utah sheriff says
A 21-year-old mother slashed her ex-boyfriend’s tires before pointing a stun gun at him and their child, authorities in Utah said.
The woman went to her ex’s apartment around 3:45 p.m. on Aug. 14 in Eagle Mountain, the Utah County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release.
When she got to the apartment complex, she slashed the man’s tires and scratched words into the vehicle, deputies said.
Then she used an “electronic incapacitation device” to shock the door handle to his apartment, deputies said, before he opened the door slightly and she pushed her way inside.
Once inside she held the device, or stun gun, “in close proximity” to the man while he was holding their 1-year-old child, deputies said.
The man rushed out of the apartment, but the woman told him she had slit his tires so he could not leave, authorities said.
She eventually got into a waiting car and told him she “could come back and take the baby any time she wants,” deputies said.
The mother was arrested two days after the incident on multiple domestic violence-related charges, including burglary of a dwelling, criminal mischief, aggravated assault, domestic violence in the presence of a child and reckless endangerment and burglary of a vehicle. She is not being identified by McClatchy News to protect the identity of her child.
The 19-year-old woman who drove the woman to her ex-boyfriend’s apartment is also facing charges of criminal mischief and disorderly conduct.
Eagle Mountain is about 40 miles southwest of Salt Lake City.
