Intruder carrying a handgun found inside children’s hospital, Colorado police say

An intruder armed with a handgun was found inside an Aurora children’s hospital, Colorado police reported.

The 27-year-old man entered Children’s Hospital Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus just after midnight Saturday, Sept. 24, Aurora police said in a news release.

Hospital security detained the man and police arrested him about 12:20 a.m., the release said.

It’s not clear why the man was at the hospital, but it was not a target and he did not intend to harm anyone, police told KDVR.

The man had an injury to his finger but it’s not known when or how he was injured, police said. No one else was hurt.

Police said he faces charges including possession of a weapon by a previous offender, possessing a dangerous weapon, carrying a concealed weapon and possessing a large-capacity magazine.

“The safety of everyone on our premises, including patients, patient families, visitors and team members, remains our priority and Children’s Colorado is conducting a comprehensive investigation of this incident,” the hospital told KDVR in a statement.
