Shoppers dive for cover as truck plows through grocery store, hurting 8, CA cops say
A Toyota Tundra pickup truck crashed through a Stater Bros. Market in Rialto, injuring eight people, California police told news outlets.
People inside the store fled and dove for cover as the pickup crashed through the front of the store, striking three cash registers, police told KABC.
The incident took place at 9:45 a.m. Monday, Oct. 10, when a 74-year-old woman parked outside mistook her gas pedal for the brake pedal, police told KTLA..
Eight people were taken to local hospitals for injuries ranging from moderate to severe, police told KCBS.
The driver was among those injured, KTLA reported.
“I was just asking to use the bathroom but when I heard that bang, and then I see the car coming through... I was actually running and the car was coming after me and I dove. I dove to the right, it went to the left,” David Romo told KABC.
Rialto is a city of nearly 105,000 people north of Riverside, about 55 miles east of Los Angeles.
