Man in living room pinned to wall when car crashes through house, Florida cops say
A man in his living room was pinned to a wall when a car came crashing through the house, according to a report from the Florida Highway Patrol.
The car, which was being driven by an 18-year-old whose blood alcohol content was over seven times the legal limit for drivers his age, was traveling northbound on a road near the home in Palm Harbor at around 10:45 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 21, according to the report.
The driver failed to stop at a stop sign, went through an intersection and left the roadway, hitting an embankment on the sloped driveway of the home, the report says.
The car then went airborne and crashed through the front of the house, traveling into the living room and hitting a 39-year-old man inside, according to the report.
The car came to a stop, pinning the man to a wall. The man was taken to a hospital but had injuries that were considered “non-incapacitating,” according to Florida Highway Patrol.
Troopers tested the driver’s blood alcohol content using a breath test and found it was 0.146, the report says. The legal limit for drivers under the age of 21 is 0.02. For drivers older than the legal drinking age, the legal limit is 0.08.
The driver was also taken to a hospital with injuries that were considered “non-incapacitating.”
Palm Harbor is about 25 miles northwest of Tampa.
The driver faces charges of driving under the influence causing serious bodily injury and reckless driving with serious bodily injury, according to Pinellas County jail records.
He was released on a bond of $17,500, records show.
