Part of 2-story building collapses after car slams into storefront, Boston photos show
Firefighters in Boston are concerned about a potential building collapse after a car crashed into a storefront.
Part of the two-story building collapsed after the driver slammed into a “block of stores” on Corinth Street in Roslindale, a neighborhood in southwest Boston, according to photos the Boston Fire Department shared on Twitter just before 9 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 18.
Photos show the car covered in debris and part of an awning dangling over the sidewalk.
The driver was taken to a hospital by EMS, according to firefighters. Authorities did not provide any details about the person’s condition on Sunday.
Firefighters said they evacuated the building over “concern of a potential collapse.”
The fire department tweeted just before 9 a.m. that “companies are using a laser to monitor the building to see if there is any movement” and that it is waiting for a structural engineer to arrive.
Residents are advised to avoid the area, and police told drivers to find an alternative route.
Authorities did not say what led up to the crash.
