Disney asks theme park visitors to show ‘common courtesy’ after fights, screaming fits

After increased fights at what is supposed to be the happiest place on earth, Disney is now asking park visitors to be nice to each other and to staff.

“We ask all who come to this happy place to treat others with respect, kindness and compassion,” a new entry on Disneyland’s website reads. It’s listed as one of the “Top Things You Should Know” as you prepare to visit the parks.

Disney’s site then links to the park’s rules for resort stays. One rule asks guests to “show common courtesy” to fellow guests and staff, known as Cast Members. It asks that they refrain from “using profanity or engaging in unsafe, illegal, disruptive or offensive behavior, jumping lines or saving places in lines for others.” It also asks that they refrain from running.

A post on Walt Disney World’s website elaborates on the rule, saying those who violate it can be asked to leave.

“Be the magic you want to see in the world,” the rule says. “You must always remember to treat others with respect, kindness and compassion. Those who can’t live up to this simple wish may be asked to leave Walt Disney World Resort.”

The new notices are an attempt to address increased physical fights and screaming matches seen at the Florida and California theme parks, with some incidents popping up across social media, the Orange County Register reported.

A fight broke out at Disneyland during the “Fantasmic” show in May, the outlet reported. In 2019, a “family melee in Mickey’s Toontown went viral and resulted in arrests.” And Anaheim police reports routinely show that visitors have gotten kicked out and cited for assault, battery, disturbing the peace or brandishing a weapon, the outlet reported.
