Stunt performer hospitalized after fiery fall at Universal Studios Hollywood show
A stunt performer required CPR after being injured in a fiery fall from a tower during the “WaterWorld” show at Universal Studios Hollywood in California, reports said.
“We can confirm a performer with one of our long-standing show vendors was transported to the hospital following a stunt during an afternoon performance and our thoughts are with him as he receives care,” a Universal spokesperson told KTLA.
The incident happened at about 2:10 p.m. Monday, Jan. 23, the Los Angeles County Fire Department told the station.
“It was a full house, like it happened in front of everyone,” visitor Daisy Anguiano, who caught the incident on video, told KABC.
In the video, a stunt performer on fire falls off a tower into the water at the climax of the show. Then other performers and crew members pull him from the water and take him backstage.
The show was later canceled and spectators escorted from the stadium, Anguiano told KABC.
No information on the performer’s name or medical condition has been released, KCBS reported.
The “WaterWorld” stunt show, based on the 1995 Kevin Costner film, “features pyrotechnics, flames, water splashes and an explosive crash landing of a seaplane,” Deadline reported.
The show also is performed at Universal Studios parks in Tokyo, Beijing and Singapore.
McClatchy News reached out to Universal on Jan. 24 and was awaiting a response.
Universal Studios Hollywood is a studio and theme park in the San Fernando Valley area of Los Angeles.
