A Utah college student died after a head-on crash while driving home for the weekend, local news reports say.

Emily Anne Fisher, 23, of South Jordan, decided to take the long way home on Friday, Jan. 27, as she was worried about road conditions in Sardine Canyon, KUTV reported.

She was driving west on State Route 30 at around 2 p.m. when she lost control of her car on the “slushy” roadway and slid into eastbound traffic, according to a news release from the Utah Highway Patrol. A pickup truck hit her sedan head-on.

Fisher was taken to a hospital in critical condition, where she died from her injuries, police said. The driver of the pickup truck had “non-life-threatening injuries” and was also taken to a hospital, while two passengers were not hurt.

“She lit up a room when she walked in and made everyone feel loved. She was selfless and caring and was the very best of us,” her obituary reads. “Her laugh was contagious, she was a great listener and would fill any hole in your heart.”

Fisher was in her final semester at Utah State University, where she was studying business management, according to her obituary. While studying at the university, she was involved in a number of activities, including being the “business ambassador and the vice president of Women in Business for the Huntsman School of Business.”

She was sent on a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints to Milan, Italy, her obituary says, where “blessed many lives and grew a strong love for the people of Italy.” Fisher visited Italy again last August.

“She had a love of popcorn like nobody else that I’ve met. Oh and her love of chocolate,” Fisher’s cousin wrote on Facebook. “You were taken too soon from this world.”

Other family members also shared their mourning on Facebook.

Our hearts are broken, and the clouds feel heavy without her,” Fisher’s aunt wrote while sharing her obituary.
