A pedestrian was hit twice on a South Carolina road — but both drivers left the scene of the deadly crash, officials said.

The woman reportedly was crossing a street when the two vehicles struck her on Wednesday, Feb. 15. She died at the scene, near the intersection of North Pleasantburg Drive and Montebello Drive in the Greenville area.

The Greenville County Coroner’s Office in a news release identified the woman as 48-year-old Ruthann Marie Mennix, a Greenville resident.

Officials said Mennix was trying to walk across North Pleasantburg Drive — also called S.C. Highway 291 — with a friend. Her friend wasn’t injured in the 6:45 p.m. crash.

The two southbound drivers didn’t stop, and their vehicles are unknown, according to a news release from the S.C. Highway Patrol.

State troopers are working with the coroner’s office to investigate the hit-and-run death, officials said. An autopsy was scheduled for Feb. 16.
