‘Hero’ bus driver saves student from being hit by passing car, Ohio video shows
A school bus driver in Ohio is being hailed a hero after video shows her saving a student from being hit by a passing car.
The heroic actions were displayed in a video Tecumseh Local Schools shared on Facebook on Thursday, Feb. 23. The school district is in New Carlisle, about 20 miles north of Dayton.
Video shows the bus driver stop to drop off the student. As the student is about to exit, the driver spots another vehicle beginning to pass on the right side of the bus.
“Whoa, wait, wait, no!” the driver shouts to the student before yanking him back by his backpack.
The vehicle then comes to a rest near the parked school bus, with the student still onboard.
The school district said it shared the video to celebrate its driver and “spread bus safety awareness.”
“Today our HERO drove a big, yellow school bus,” the district said.
Family members of the student also praised the bus driver.
“Thank God for the quick actions and awareness from this bus driver,” said Amy Mendenhall, the student’s aunt. “She is our hero today because this could have definitely turned out a lot worse.”
“Not enough thanks can be expressed to her for being observant and quickly stopping him,” Judy Mendenhall, the student’s grandmother, commented. “God was watching, and praise her for her awareness. It is beyond deserved.”
