Remains found by hiker identified as woman missing since 2021, Utah sheriff says

A hiker stumbled across human remains in an unincorporated area of Washington County in southern Utah, sheriff’s officials reported.

The remains were reported just before 2 p.m. Saturday, March 4, near Sheep Bridge Road, the Washington County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release.

Deputies confirmed the remains were human, the release said. .

The remains have been identified as those of Miriam Salgado, 44, of Nephi, who vanished in the area in August 2021, sheriff’s officials told KSTU. Her car was found nearby.

“There are no signs of danger to the public,” sheriff’s officials said. Investigators found no signs of suspicious circumstances.

Washington County, which contains the city of St. George, lies on the border of Utah, Arizona and Nevada in the southwest corner of the state.
