High school baseball player killed riding brother’s motorcycle, Missouri officials say
A high school athlete died after crashing a motorcycle into an SUV, Missouri officials say.
Cash Martin, a sophomore at Rock Bridge High School in Columbia, had taken his brother’s motorcycle for a quick ride on Monday, March 6, according to a GoFundMe.
“We never guessed it would be his last,” loved ones said in the GoFundMe.
The Columbia Police Department said the crash happened around 12:20 p.m. when the motorcyclist collided into a Toyota RAV4 that was making a left turn. One person was thrown from the motorcycle and pronounced dead at the scene, police said.
The driver of the RAV4 was uninjured, according to police.
Officers did not identify Martin, but the Rock Bridge baseball team memorialized the student in a Twitter post.
Martin was 15, KOMU reported.
“Words cannot express how difficult it is to lose one of our students,” Rock Bridge principal Jacob Sirna said in an email to parents, the Columbia Daily Tribune reported. “We extend our heartfelt sympathy to the student’s family.”
His aunt shared photos on Facebook of a vigil held at the wreck site Tuesday night.
There were 148 motorcycle deaths in Missouri in 2022, KMIZ reported, including 10 in mid-Missouri.
