Texas A&M fraternity mourns after 19-year-old dies in fall from New Orleans balcony
A 19-year-old Texas college student died after falling from a balcony in New Orleans, according to police and news outlets.
Officers responded to the scene near downtown at 3:37 a.m. on Saturday, April 29, according to a New Orleans Police Department release. The student was “leaning over balcony railing when he accidentally fell to (the) ground.” He was pronounced dead at the scene.
A Texas A&M fraternity, Delta Tau Delta, later confirmed it was one of its members, Andrew Henges.
“This past Saturday, April 29th, we lost a beloved brother of ours, Andrew Henges. His passing is and will always be unbelievably tragic, but the impact he had on the men of this fraternity and everyone he knew outside of it is far from that,” the fraternity said in a May 2 Instagram post.
“Andrew was soft-spoken but carried a heart of gold — one that deeply cared for others. He was known to be humble, selfless, loving, strong, and proud. This fraternity is terribly saddened by the death of our brother, Andrew, but we are forever thankful for the wonderful memories that he left for us all.”
Henges attended Monsignor Kelly Catholic High School in Beaumont, Texas, before enrolling at Texas A&M to pursue a degree in biology, the high school said last year in a Facebook post.
Henges’ funeral will be held Saturday, May 6, in Beaumont, according to an obituary.
