Life-changing lottery win brings SC man to his knees. He wants to spread the wealth
A stop for gas led to a six-figure lottery win for a South Carolina man. Now he plans on sharing the wealth.
The Upstate man filled up at a Marathon station in Greenville on his way home from work, South Carolina Education Lottery officials said Sept. 21. While at the pump, he scratched a Carolina Cash ticket he purchased — and fell to his knees.
He laid eyes on the top prize: $300,000, officials said. The man said he was shocked by the big win.
“I’m still working,” he told officials, laughing.
The man said he plans to use the prize money to help his family and others.
He beat odds of 1 in 840,000 to hit the $300,000 jackpot, according to lottery officials. Now, only three top prizes remain in the Carolina Cash game.
Greenville is about 100 miles northwest of Columbia.
