Wife asks husband to check lottery ticket — then he visits her job with exciting news
A mother of three asked her husband to check her lottery ticket — then he visited her job with exciting news.
The Maryland woman said she discovered her ticket was worth $50,000 and couldn’t believe her luck.
“I had to literally pinch myself,” the winner told the Maryland Lottery in a Dec. 15 news release.
Now, the woman said she hopes to help pay for her daughter to go to college. The lucky mom is sharing her wealth after she hit the jackpot on Thanksgiving Day.
She was working a holiday shift when she visited a Baltimore-area convenience store on her break. While at Quick Mart in Randallstown, she spent $18 to play the Bonus Match 5 drawing game, officials said.
Though the woman didn’t think about her ticket at first, she later had a request for her husband.
“I was still working and I called my husband to check the numbers for me,” the woman told lottery officials. “He was so astonished that he came to my work to tell me I won in person.”
The woman, an entrepreneur living in Owings Mills, had her family members and a convenience store worker double-check that the ticket matched enough numbers to win big.
The lottery in its news release didn’t name the winner or say how much she kept after taxes. In addition to her daughter’s education, she plans to invest and put some of her prize money toward a new business.
It’s not the first time a worker’s time off has taken a lucky turn. In 2021, North Carolina officials said a man playing the lottery during his lunch break returned to his job with a winning ticket, McClatchy News reported.
