Lottery player just misses $638M Powerball jackpot — but still wins big in Washington
A lottery player scored $50,000 in Washington, missing the $638 million Powerball jackpot by one number.
The player matched four white balls and the red Powerball during the Monday, Dec. 25, drawing, according to Washington’s Lottery.
The winning six numbers were 5, 12, 20, 24 and 29, with a Powerball of 4.
If the player had scored the first five numbers and missed only the Powerball, they would have won $1 million, like two players in New Hampshire, and Pennsylvania did during the drawing.
A California player also matched the first five numbers; however, they scored $2.08 million because Powerball prize levels in California are based on parimutuel calculations.
The prize levels “vary depending on ticket sales and number of winners and will differ from the fixed prizes shown on the Powerball website.”
In Colorado and Georgia, two tickets landed $2 million after matching five numbers and the Power Play.
No one scored the jackpot.
The Powerball jackpot is now an estimated $685 million. The next drawing will happen Wednesday, Dec. 27.
