Lottery player thought he won $5,000 on Missouri ticket — but prize was much bigger
A Missouri man was shocked to see how much he won on a Powerball ticket.
The Laclede County man purchased the ticket for the Feb. 26 drawing at the East Gate Express in Lebanon, according to a March 13 news release from the Missouri Lottery.
“It was just a Quick Pick,” he said.
The man realized he matched four out of five numbers, plus the Powerball number.
When he looked at the screen to see the prize amount, it took him a moment to realize what he just won.
“I looked at it on the computer and thought it was $5,000 at first, but then I realized it was $50,000,” he said.
The man took the ticket back to the store, just to be sure, he told lottery officials.
“She came back and told me it was for $50,000!” he said.
The winning numbers were 24, 29, 42, 51 and 54 with the Powerball number being 16.
Lebanon is about 165-mile drive southwest of St. Louis.
