Lottery player wins historic jackpot prize in South Carolina. Where was ticket sold?
A lottery player hit the jackpot — and won a historic prize in South Carolina.
The lucky person bought a ticket that matched all the numbers picked in the Palmetto Cash 5 drawing Monday, May 20. The ticket was worth $1.068 million, marking the state’s largest-ever “rolling jackpot win,” according to the S.C. Education Lottery.
The winning numbers: 15-30-35-36-38.
The record-breaking ticket was sold on Johns Island, in the Charleston area. It came from the Speedway gas station on Savannah Highway, lottery officials wrote in a May 21 news release.
Palmetto Cash 5 tickets start at $2, and the odds of scoring the game’s top prize are 1 in 850,668. The winner made history after the jackpot rolled 48 times, though lottery officials in their release didn’t reveal details about the previous record holder.
“Check your tickets on Johns Island,” officials wrote.
The S.C. Education Lottery, which didn’t immediately respond to McClatchy News’ requests for additional information on May 21, gives winners about six months to claim their prizes.
