UPDATE: The South Carolina Department of Natural Resources announced on June 3 that the body of Porsha Griffin, who disappeared May 25 while tubing on Lake Greenwood, has been found.

A 30-year-old mom vanished while tubing on a lake over Memorial Day weekend, loved ones told news outlets.
A woman was on a tube when she fell off and disappeared under water Saturday, May 25, according to the S.C. Department of Natural Resources. Her family told WYFF the woman was Porsha Griffin, a nurse and member of the South Carolina National Guard.
“The wait is the hardest part of this whole ordeal,” Amicka Griffin, mother of the missing woman, told WSPA.
The disappearance was reported on Lake Greenwood, a roughly 55-mile drive southeast from Greenville. When asked about the disappearance early May 28, state officials directed McClatchy News to past updates it shared on X, formerly known as Twitter.
The Department of Natural Resources said investigators responded to the lake after a woman riding a tube disappeared.
“The initial report suggests a person tubing behind a boat fell off without a life jacket and hasn’t resurfaced,” crews said, later writing that “the search has involved extensive diving and use of sonar.”
Meanwhile, Amicka Griffin told news outlets that her family is hoping for updates about her daughter, who is described as independent and supportive.
“When I got the phone call I was hysterically shocked,” she told WHNS in a May 27 report. “I immediately came to the area...that they are searching for her. It’s been a lot, it’s been a whole lot to take in.”
Lake Greenwood spans 11,400 acres of Greenwood, Laurens and Newberry counties.
