‘Home Alone’ estate is for sale — just don’t look inside. ‘Childhood stripped away’
Sometimes in life, our favorite childhood movies and shows don’t hold up quite as well as we remember them, but one that always stood its ground was holiday comedy “Home Alone,” which for some people, is the quintessential movie of the holiday season.
Now, the famous home in the Chicago suburbs that spawned so many questions about what in tarnation the McCallister parents did for a living is up for sale.
But be prepared to have those fun and colorful Christmas memories to look a bit more beige when glancing inside this Winnetka residence that’s listed for $5.25 million.
Because, well, it’s no longer the same.
At all.
During a walkthrough video posted on Instagram, listing agent Kathryn Moor of Coldwell Banker and The Dawn McKenna group highlighted some of the changes the current owners invested in during a 2018 renovation, including an indoor basketball court and screened porch.
“Ever wanted to live like Kevin McCallister? Now is your chance to fulfill your childhood dreams!” the Instagram post said.
“While much of the home will look familiar, you won’t believe what the sellers have done to transform this famous home, nearly doubling the livable footage and adding a state of the art sport court!”
But not everyone is onboard with the dramatic changes in the iconic house and took to the comment section to air their grievances.
“Soooo much more appealing in the movie. Now it’s just plain. Looks like every other home. Especially the kitchen,” one person observed.
“So much fun seeing this tour,” another said.
“Childhood stripped away,” someone sadly stated with a frown emoticon.
“This house is beautiful and I love home alone movies but I missed the old look of the house, the old historic and the old characters of the house is gone,” another said.
While many people aren’t charmed by the new interior, altogether it has a very chic, modern look that’s extremely stylish with natural colors and hardwood floors. It doesn’t have to be everyone’s taste, but it is rather sleek.
“I like it either way the only thing I don’t like is the basketball court,” one person commented.
One thing is for certain — at least the attic isn’t terrifying any more.
